STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A serious traffic accident caused by a reckless U-turn has led to the arrest of 24-year-old Antonio Mascorro of Stafford.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of August 3rd, at the intersection of Chatham Heights Road and Kings Highway.
Deputy J.E. Cordes of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene following multiple calls about the accident. Investigations revealed that a Jeep Wrangler, attempting a U-turn on Chatham Bridge, collided with a Honda Civic.
The crash resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to all four occupants of the Honda, who were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the collision, Mascorro reportedly drove the Jeep towards a nearby wood line, abandoned the vehicle, and fled on foot into the woods. The Jeep left running, contained purchase paperwork and a cell phone identifying Mascorro as the owner.
A perimeter was quickly established by deputies to locate Mascorro. He was found in the area of Naomi Road and detained by Deputy S.A. Hensley.
During questioning, Mascorro initially claimed he was not the driver and blamed another individual named Jesus for the crash. However, witness statements confirmed Mascorro was indeed the driver at the time of the accident.
Mascorro has been charged with felony hit and run with personal injuries, reckless driving, driving while suspended, conducting an illegal U-turn, having expired registration, and operating an uninsured vehicle. He is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
