The popular Autumnfest celebration returns to downtown Princeton on Saturday.
This is the 18th year for Autumfest, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mercer Street in the Historic Grassroots District of Princeton. It is being sponsored this year by the Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginias.
As in past years, Mercer Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. so that festival attendees can walk up and down Mercer Street and visit the various vendors on display and businesses that are open, chamber officials said Thursday.
The annual fall celebration normally attracts a crowd of thousands to downtown Princeton.
This year’s Autumnfest will feature more than 90 vendors offering a full array of products, crafts, artwork, food, retail merchandise, and promotional information. The festival also will feature free bounce houses and a foam party and a classic car show, the chamber said Thursday.
Crafts for youth also are planned, along with a pumpkin pie eating contest. A pumpkin bowling contest also will be held for children in the town square area.
While rain has been an issue all week, the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., is calling for mostly cloudy conditions Saturday with a high of near 72 degrees.
The chamber said various sponsors are helping with this year’s Autumnfest, including Princeton Community Hospital/WVU Medicine, King’s Tire Service, Princeton Health Care Center, City National Bank, Grants Supermarkets, Star 95, and the city of Princeton.
The event this year is under the leadership of Kristen Farley, vice chair of the chamber’s Community Engagement Division working with a committee of volunteers and project coordinators.
