VIRGINIA — Northern Virginia counties saw home prices spike this year compared to last year, according to new data that revealed where in the area buying a home could cost you more.
The list was created using Zillow data from February 2024, which showed that the typical home value in Virginia is $377,699, a 5.5 percent increase from February 2023. The cost of a home in Virginia is also slightly higher than the nationwide average of $347,716.
However, when purchasing a home in Northern Virginia, be prepared to pay significantly more than the state or national average.
Fairfax City topped the list of Northern Virginia counties and cities where home prices increased the most, according to the data, followed by Fairfax County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.
In Fairfax City, home values increased by nearly 7 percent compared to February 2023, while Fairfax County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park saw values increase by more than 6 percent.
The city of Alexandria saw the smallest increase at 3.7 percent.
Currently, the most expensive homes in Northern Virginia are located in the city of Falls Church, where home values average more than $1 million. Arlington County followed at $775,000.
Also topping the list were Fairfax City, as well as Fairfax and Loudoun counties, where it can cost anywhere from $700,000 to $750,000 to purchase a home.
