A 15-year-old male from Trenton was arrested for the shooting death of a Trenton man earlier this month. The United States Marshals Service apprehended the suspect in Norfolk, Virginia on Wednesday.
The teenager faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He will remain in Virginia pending extradition to Mercer County.
The killing occurred on July 9 at 12:25 a.m. Trenton police responded to a call about a person in distress on the 200 block of East Hanover Street. Officers found Luis Torres Marrero, 47, with a gunshot wound to his head. Marrero was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he died on July 14 due to his injuries.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Shooting Response Team conducted the investigation, which is ongoing. Authorities request anyone with information to contact Detective Zachary Ortman or Sergeant William Jett Jr. Tips can also be emailed to mchtftips@mercercounty.org.
