CLIFTON, VA — A driver from Woodbridge was charged in a Clifton crash that killed a passenger in his car, Fairfax County Police say.
Around 10 a.m. on July 13, detectives say the driver was heading westbound on Old Yates Ford Road near Henderson Road in a 2003 Honda Accord when he lost control and crossed over the double yellow line. A 2019 Volkswagen Atlas heading east on Old Yates Ford Road struck the Honda on the passenger side.
The passenger of the Honda, Jack Gumm, 22, of Manassas, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital. The Volkswagen driver and passenger went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Honda driver, Mukeh Banya, 21, of Woodbridge, was not injured but has been charged with failure to maintain proper control. He was released on a summons.
Police did not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
