TRENTON, NJ — Governor Phil Murphy has expressed strong support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ proposal to provide $25,000 grants to first-time homebuyers, highlighting its success in New Jersey. Murphy lauded the program’s significant impact, particularly on young, black, and brown communities in the state.
Murphy emphasized the program’s effectiveness in New Jersey, describing it as a “huge success” for first-time homebuyers.
He noted that while the grant aids in homeownership, it is not the sole solution to housing issues, stressing the need for an increase in housing supply.
“We’ve done it in Jersey. It’s a huge success. It’s had a particularly outsized impact on young, black, and brown communities who are buying their first home,” Murphy stated.
He affirmed his support for both initiatives aimed at assisting first-time homeowners and for expanding the overall housing stock, especially affordable housing.
